Eye Condition Reference Guide
Chronic Dry Eye
Dry eye is a common condition that can cause discomfort, irritation and fluctuating vision. It often occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears or when the tear film does not properly lubricate the surface of the eyes.
Common Symptoms
- Gritty or sandy sensation
- Burning or stinging
- Eye redness
- Intermittent blurred vision
- Tired eyes
- Sensitivity to light
Available Treatments
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) and Radiofrequency
IPL and radiofrequency may help improve the function of the meibomian glands, which produce the oily layer of the tear film. For suitable patients, this treatment may help reduce inflammation, limit tear evaporation and improve tear film stability.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRGF)
Platelet-derived eye drops may support the ocular surface and may be recommended for certain patients with moderate, severe or persistent dry eye symptoms.
Meibomian Gland Dysfunction
The meibomian glands produce the oily layer of the tear film. When these glands do not function properly, tears may evaporate too quickly, contributing to evaporative dry eye.
Common Symptoms and Related Conditions
- Blepharitis
- Styes
- Chalazia
- Persistent dry eye
- Irritated eyelids
- Fluctuating vision
- Burning sensation
- Red eyes
Available Treatments
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) and Radiofrequency
IPL and radiofrequency may help reduce inflammation and support meibomian gland function. Treatment recommendations and results vary according to each patient’s condition.
Eye Strain
Eye strain is often associated with prolonged visual effort, particularly when working at a computer, using digital devices or reading for extended periods.
Common Symptoms
- Tired eyes
- Difficulty concentrating
- Fluctuating or unstable vision
- Pressure around the eyes
- Frequent urge to rub the eyes
Available Treatments
Neurolens
Neurolens lenses use contoured prism technology to help correct certain eye misalignments. Following a comprehensive assessment, they may be recommended to reduce visual effort and improve everyday comfort.
Vision-Related headaches
Some headaches may be associated with prolonged visual effort, uncorrected vision problems or binocular vision disorders. A comprehensive assessment is required to determine whether vision may be contributing to the symptoms.
Common Symptoms
- Tired eyes
- Frequent headaches
- Pain in the forehead or around the eyes
- Tension around the temples
- Discomfort after prolonged screen use
Available Treatments
Neurolens
For selected patients, Neurolens lenses may help reduce visual strain associated with certain eye alignment problems. Results vary, and headaches may have causes unrelated to vision that require medical evaluation.
Persistent Eye Irritation
When eye irritation persists despite the use of lubricating drops, a more comprehensive assessment may be needed to identify contributing factors and determine an appropriate treatment.
Common Symptoms
- Frequent redness
- Burning sensation
- Persistent irritation
- Sensitivity to light
- Daily discomfort
Available Treatments
Intense Pulsed Light Therapy (IPL) and Radiofrequency
For suitable patients, IPL and radiofrequency may help reduce inflammation and improve tear film quality by supporting meibomian gland function.
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRGF)
Platelet-derived eye drops may help support the ocular surface and may be recommended for certain persistent or more severe conditions.
A Personalized Approach
Every patient is unique. At Centre Visuel D.R., we take the time to assess your symptoms, eye health and visual habits before recommending the most appropriate treatment for your situation.
Our goal is to identify and address the factors contributing to your discomfort, rather than focusing solely on temporary symptom relief.
